Tooth Eruption In KidsYour child is growing up so quickly, it seems like just yesterday they were crawling, but now your little one is ready to finish kindergarten, and has their first loose tooth. With all the fast changes in their developing smile, you’re not quite sure what to expect of the tooth eruption process. But luckily for you, the team at Children’s Dental Center, your children’s dentist in Center, can guide you with the facts you need. In this post, learn more about the order in which your kid’s teeth will arrive.

What Is The Order Of Tooth Eruption In Kids?

As a father of three sons and an affiliate member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Thomas Youngblood knows about the process of how kids’ teeth come in. He explains the timetable for adult teeth in children below:

  • Age: 3-6 Months – Around this time, your child’s baby, or deciduous, teeth will erupt in the mouth. Since dental problems can arise as soon as teeth appear, be sure to schedule your child’s first dental visit with us no later than their first birthday.
  • Age: 2 – Most children have their entire set of all 20 baby teeth by this time.
  • Age: 6-7 – The two bottom front teeth (lower central incisors) that are used to bite food, and the upper and lower first molars come at this age.
  • Age: 7-8 – The top two front teeth that are used for biting (upper central incisors) will erupt now, along with the teeth on both sides of the bottom front teeth (lower lateral incisors).
  • Age: 8-9 – At this time, the teeth on both sides of the front two teeth (upper lateral incisors) will come in.
  • Age: 9-10 –  On the bottom row, you can expect to see the pointy canine teeth (cuspids) erupt in your childs smile.
  • Age: 10-11 – In the upper row, the first premolars (first bicuspids) will appear.
  • Age: 10-12 – The first premolars on the bottom row will come in around this age, as will the second premolar (second bicuspid) on the top arch.
  • Age: 11-12 – The canines (cuspids) on the top will erupt now, along with the second premolars (second bicuspids) on the bottom row.
  • Age: 11-13 – The second molar on the bottom row should start to develop and push through the gums at this age.
  • Age: 12-13 – The second molar on the top row should erupt at this point.
  • Age: 17-25 – Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, will come at this time. Although some people don’t get their wisdom teeth, they are usually removed, since there is most often not enough room in the mouth for them and they generally cause more problems than they solve.

As with any natural process, there are some small variations in the ages at which develop, but be sure to talk with Dr. Youngblood if you notice anything out of the ordinary , we’re always happy to answer questions and address your concerns.

Now that you know about the order in which teeth will erupt in your child’s smile, schedule your appointment with Children’s Dental Center to make sure your kid’s teeth are on track!
